Beschreibung
This piece, completed in January 2005, came about after a request for a piano reduction of the score of Conversation Concerto No.8 for bassoon and orchestra [B131]. After having made this
reduction, the composer thought not to waste the effort and turned three of the movements into this sonata, the scherzando movement having been omitted as it relies heavily on percussion.
There are three movements.
1: Allegro - a sonata form movement which explores wide leaps on the bassoon.
2: Poco adagio - a relaxed movement with echoes of Satie.
3: Allegro ma non troppo - contrapuntal figures work themselves into a big farewell melody for a coda.
