Description
This piece was written in April 1971 and slightly revised in April 1991. It was originally written as an exercise in the use of 12 different keys. No.6 of the first version has been discarded and a new one composed for this revision. The titles of nos. 5 (Noble), 6 (Sehnsuchts), 9 (Sentimentale) and 12 (Letzter), allude to Schubert's Opp. 77, 9, 50 and 127 respectively. Although the waltz form is strictly that used by Schubert, the melodic and harmonic language occasionally reflects that of Chopin, Waldteufel and even Prokofiev, but most of the pieces are indeed purely Schubertian.
